pimlico's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i'm not sick but i'm not well A piece of spam just arrived in my work inbox. Said spam has the opening sentence: "The rabbits are ned's". Initially, I misread this as "The rabbits are neds", making them chavs* from Glasgow. But I think it was supposed to indicate that the rabbits belong to a man named Ned. Possibly the actor, Ned Beattie** - he had to pretend to be raped in Deliverance so perhaps he has chosen to spend his retirement tending to fluffy bunnies as a way of coping with his bad memories. Their twitchy noses help him cope with the past. I have been coughing like a consumptive Victorian child for the past few days. It's not nice. My Mum suggested I ensure that my chest and throast are covered against the elements. She's right, of course, but unfortunately most of my tops display more than a bit of neck. Rather than switch to turtle necks, which make me look lumpen, I have taken to wearing a little black velvet scarf with my usual tops. This does the job, kind of. Of course, this is a look that I could carry off better if I was a bloke - slightly glam rock or a Russell Brand style pirate look. As I am a girl, with glasses, I suspect I look more like a prissy 1950s librarian... I forget my point. Apart fromt he fact that a lot of the spam I get at work seems to be written by Edward Lear. Oh, and I realise I could have misread the email as "The rabbits are neds'" thus implying that they belong to early 90s lumpen indie-dance band Neds Atomic Dustbin. This conjures up the pleasing image of rabbits with wonky haircuts wearing big shorts. * I dislike using the word "chav" especially as it seems to be the modern day equivalent of "peasant", but it was the nearest thing I could think of to "ned". ** Ned Beattie was also Lex Luther's minion in Superman 1 and 2. So I'm assuming he also had to deal with children kicking him in the shins on a regular basis as punishment for being mean to the Man of Steel. 1:03 p.m. - 2007-05-15 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
